Matthew G. Powers, DVM

Dr. Matthew Powers is a general practitioner who joined the veterinary staff at Stanley Veterinary Clinic in 2010.

Dr. Powers attended Kansas State University and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science and Industry in 2005. He attended Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in May 2009. While attending veterinary school, Dr. Powers received two prestigious awards: the Dr. Richard and Pam DeBowers Professional Leadership Award and the Dr. W.F. and H.R. Award for Proficiency in Small Animal Surgery. He also acted as the student/faculty affairs committee advisor. He was a research assistant to Greg Grauer, DVM, MS, DACVIM (IM) and presented a lecture on NSAIDs and kidney disease at the 69th Annual Kansas Veterinary Medicine Alumni Conference.

After graduation, Dr. Powers and his wife decided to move to North Carolina where he was part of a small animal practice for a year and a half. They then decided to move back to Overland Park to be near family. Dr. Powers was excited to find there was an open position at Stanley Veterinary Clinic where he had previously been a veterinary assistant for several years.

He has a special professional interest in veterinary surgery and is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

He is married to Lindsey, a registered nurse, and they have a son named Parker and a daughter named Paxton. They share a home with Roxie – a lab mix, Trixie – an Australian Shepherd Mix, 5 goats, Chickens, and 2 crusted geckos.

When not at the Clinic, Dr. Powers can be found playing sports, including racquetball, softball and walleyball. He also loves hiking and spends time on gardening and woodworking projects.
